The special ingredient for Christmas body lotions
Christmas fragrances hint at elements or ingredients traditionally used during year-end festivities, like cinnamon or gingerbread. Other fragrances are less directly connoted yet decisive in bringing to life the characteristic essences of our Christmas products. Like Scotch Pine, for example.
Scotch Pine: plant and properties
The Scotch Pine, an evergreen tree, can grow up to 30 metres tall and is prevalent in the Alps and across central Europe. It thrives at altitudes ranging from 400 to 1400 meters, making it well-suited for both hilly and mountainous regions. Remarkably resistant to cold, this tree can even thrive at altitudes of up to 1800 metres.
The Scotch Pine is a resilient, long-lived conifer with upward-bending branches, distinguished from other pines or firs by two notable features: needles arranged in pairs and the characteristic reddish bark seen in younger specimens. The Scotch Pine possesses unique phytotherapeutic properties. Pine essential oil is extracted from the distillation of its branches, needles, and buds. This oil acts as a stimulant for the nervous system, supports the respiratory system, exhibits antiseptic and antibacterial effects, and serves as a natural remedy for stress and asthma. Additionally, it has toning and energising properties.
Scotch Pine soaps: types and fragrances
Scotch Pine is also widely used in the cosmetic industry due to its olfactory properties. It’s a balsamic essence, featuring enveloping, woody notes that instantly evoke the fragrant ambience of mountain forests or the atmosphere within a log cabin. Paired with its expectorant benefits for the airways, Scotch pine is recognised as a fragrance that purifies the air and fosters relaxation of both body and soul, supporting recovery from daily stress.
That’s why Scotch Pine is often found in soaps, sometimes in the form of a dedicated fragrance (e.g. in Scotch pine bath foams). For some of our ranges, we have included this essence among the highly selected natural raw materials for the formulation. In particular, Scotch Pine defines soaps with Tuscan Spruce fragrance, which is part of our Christmas-themed products alongside Gingerbread, Woodspice, and Orange & Cinnamon. It also imparts a masculine fragrance with robust balsamic notes, offering emollient and invigorating effects on the skin.
