Amber soap to purify the skin

A delicate and regenerating product for your body care

What is the origin of amber in soaps and perfumery, and what are the characteristics of this unique fragrance? Let’s discover it together.

Amber fragrance: what is it?

Amber used in cosmetics and perfumery can essentially relate to two substances:

  • ambergris is an odorous animal-derived material produced by sperm whales’ digestive systems. This type of biliary fluid expelled by these cetaceans through regurgitation or excrement does not smell good when new but takes on a grey appearance and a powerful, appealing fragrance when left to dry in the sun;
  • yellow amber is instead a translucent fossil resin produced by now-extinct plants and is considered an organic stone. This substance is generally yellow, hence the name dun stone. Its texture is hard yet easily mouldable.

In both cases, since this substance is extremely rare in nature, the amber fragrance is made synthetically, obtaining a compound replicating the original material’s odour. Amber is widely used in perfumes as a note in many formulations because it fixes odours. But amber has its own fragrance, which is the star of one of our scented soaps.

Amber soaps: fragrance, characteristics and properties

Amber’s fragrance is pleasant and multifaceted. It encloses sweet, vaguely spicy notes hinting at vanilla and tobacco. Amber is aphrodisiac, energising, pain-relieving and detoxifying. Amber is believed to benefit the joints and combat rheumatism. It is also thought to have a positive influence on the spirit and psyche, eliminating negative energies and restoring serenity due to its luminosity. In antiquity, amber was often associated with the sun and imbued with positive meanings.

On the skin, amber has an antioxidant and regenerating action. It rejuvenates the skin cells, creating a general feel of warmth. Deterging the hands and face with an amber soap helps eliminate skin impurities, acting as an anti-ageing solution while releasing its therapeutic and calming effect. That’s why Alchimia Soap has reserved a special place for this fragrance: the amber soaps of our Ladybug Classic range – those with a wooden ladybug on the packaging – are an authentic panacea for keeping your skin healthy. They are the ideal product for your skincare routine. You can be assured to use an Italian, artisanal, quality product that is also gentle on the skin.
